Family and community are important to Steve.  He was born in Winona and raised in Albert Lea, Minnesota .  After graduating from high school in Albert Lea, Steve attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota .  While in college, Steve played on the college's varsity football team and joined the Army ROTC.

Shortly after graduating from Gustavus, Steve moved to Arkansas to continue his military service and start a career in Retail Marketing and Management.  While there, he met his wife, Andrea.  After five years in the Retail Marketing and Management field, Steve entered the University of Arkansas School of Law.  Steve continued to be actively involved in the United States Army Reserve even while attending law school.

Steve and his family returned to Minnesota to be closer to family and friends after his graduation from law school in 1999.  He began his legal career in Minnesota twelve years ago working as a family law attorney for lawrence downing.  Mr. Downing was a highly regarded family law attorney with over thirty years of experience.  When Mr. downing retired in the spring of 2010, Steve took over ownership of the law office with Attorney Amber Lawrence.

Even though Steve is busy practicing law, he is proud to continue his service in the U. S. Army Reserve.  In fact, a few years ago, he was sent to Afghanistan for almost a year as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The experience emphasized for Steve just how fragile life is.  He has taken his experiences from Afghanistan and applied them towards his everyday life, enabling him to improve his personal life and his service to clients.  Steve was eventually promoted to the rank of Major soon after his return from Afghanistan  and currently continues his service with the Judge Advocate General's Corps.  His military background has given him particular knowledge about the issues relating to divorce  where one or both parties are in the military service.

Steve believes in working closely with his client in an effort to reach the best results for the client and his client's family.
